The Amazing Meteor Showers

What are Meteor Showers?

Meteors are also known as “shooting stars” because of the glow they have when they shoot past through the Earth’s atmosphere. It happens whenever Earth passes through a comet’s orbit the debris shoot past through the Earth’s atmosphere and ignite that makes it look like a shooting star. Meteor showers happen on a specific date and time so we can speculate when will it happen and when is the best time to observe it. You just have to know the dates of these meteor showers and how to observe it.

Do’s and Don’ts when planning to watch a meteor shower. Avoid viewing in a full moon or in a gibbous phase. Remember that the darker the night sky the better it is when watching a meteor shower, check the phase of the moon as early as possible. Another thing to do when you want to watch a meteor shower is to check weather forecast – at least 2 to 3 days prior to its peak. Good thing that smartphones these days can give accurate weather forecast with just a click. Lastly, pick a place with lesser light pollution or darker night sky since. You can check some organizations, groups of amateur to professional astronomers when it comes to the astronomical event, mostly they’re open to public and prepared series of a lecture about astronomy and some trivia about the event.

When does meteor shower happen?

Luckily, meteor showers happen the same date every year, the earlier you learn about it the better – especially when you want to make meteor shower watching your next hobby. You just have to keep track the dates (see figure 1.2). Save the date for your next romantic date, barkada getaway or just to chill out at night to keep your mind at ease and relax.
